About
Established in 1991, we are a small neighbourhood school focused on emphasizing technique so that ability can flourish.
Classical Tap began when Bill Robinson rose up onto the balls of his feet ( despite the flat footed Tapping style popular at the time ) By standing upright and lifting his heels off the floor he discovered an increased ability to move with ease, cleaner crisper sounds and a lightness that contributed to turning Classical Tap into an art form.
Classical Tap technique training is becoming rare as the style trend of Tap turned back to the harder hitting, close to the floor work referred to as Hoofing ( popular pre-Bill Robinson ) in the 1990’s. Initially the teachers promoting this Hoofing style were Classical trained Tap dancers but 30 years later we now have teachers who have not trained with any Classical Technique and are unable to adapt as Tap starts to move back towards the movement and travelling popular in Classical Tap.
We are dedicated to preserving Classical Tap, focusing on creating dancers who can handle any challenge gracefully. Come experience the difference our small classes, family friendly atmosphere and strong technique make.
Every dancer is given the opportunity to excel - come join our dance family!
